LONDON: BBC Two has commissioned Hebburn<\/em>, a comedy based on comedian Jason Cook’s upbringing in North East England. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Cook, who is writing the show along with Graham Duff, will play the lovable yet rogue Ramsey, inspired by Chris Ramsey. The character version of Jason leaves his small town for Manchester and secretly marries a middle class Jewish girl, and then realizes he should introduce her to his family.<\/p>\n

The six-part series will be directed by Chris Gernon and produced by Gill Isles. It will be executive produced for BBC by Kristian Smith, by Henry Normal and Lindsay Hughes for Baby Cow Manchester, and Matt Tiller and Alan Marke for Channel X North.<\/p>\n

Smith, the executive editor of comedy commissioning, said, “We are delighted to be bringing Hebburn<\/em> to BBC two. Not only does it bring back the warm heart of the North East to sitcom, but also delivers a charming and funny comedy about a grown up family with a fantastic cast attached.<\/p>\n

Cook said, “I somehow knew Chris [Ramsey] would end up playing the young version of me and that I would be playing Ramsey and unbelievably, when I was younger my hair was even worse than Chris’s is now.”<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
