The last year has seen a strong increase in the export of TV programs from France, up 9 percent year-on-year for a total of \u20ac354.8 million ($419.3 million), its highest level of the past 25 years.<\/p>\n
This is according to the latest figures from le Centre national du cin\u00e9ma et de l\u2019image anim\u00e9e (CNC) and the TV division of UniFrance (previously TV France International), revealed as part of their annual study of French TV exports.<\/p>\n
International sales of French TV programs are consistent with 2019 at \u20ac196.9 million ($232.9 million).<\/p>\n
French animation is still the top-selling genre abroad at \u20ac74.7 million ($88.4 million). Over ten years, sales have doubled\u2014up 110 percent.<\/p>\n
Fiction, the second biggest genre for export, has seen its sales increase by 135 percent over the last ten years. In 2020, sales reached \u20ac47.1 million ($55.7 million).<\/p>\n
The documentary genre set a new record in 2020 with sales of \u20ac46 million ($54 million), up 4.5 percent from 2019. Sales have increased 70 percent in the last ten years.<\/p>\n
Worldwide rights sales remain high at \u20ac41.2 million ($48.7 million), 20.9 percent of total exports. Gains were particularly strong in animation (24.1 percent) and documentary (30.1 percent).<\/p>\n
With 746 programs available on at least one SVOD platform, France is the second most present European country on SVOD platforms internationally, behind the U.K. It is sixth worldwide.<\/p>\n
In terms of the number of programs ordered over the last 12 months, France is number three in Europe for fiction and number three for animation and documentaries worldwide.<\/p>\n

We must capitalize on this success, pursue our quest to dominate the international markets and maintain our advantage.
