{"id":10924,"date":"2021-04-15T10:27:31","date_gmt":"2021-04-15T14:27:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev2.worldscreen.com\/tveurope\/disney-sets-scripted-u-k-originals\/"},"modified":"2021-04-15T10:27:31","modified_gmt":"2021-04-15T14:27:31","slug":"disney-sets-scripted-u-k-originals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tveurope\/2021\/04\/15\/disney-sets-scripted-u-k-originals\/","title":{"rendered":"Disney+ Sets Scripted U.K. Originals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Walt Disney Company EMEA has revealed its initial slate of scripted U.K. originals for Disney+, including projects with Sally Wainwright, Sally Woodward Gentle, Faith Penhale and Stephen Garrett.<\/p>\n<p>Three U.K. productions have been confirmed for Disney+\u2014one Disney-branded and two Star-branded originals\u2014spanning a range of genres.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Ballad of Renegade Nell<\/em> is a Disney-branded swashbuckling adventure series set in the 18th century. Written by Sally Wainwright (<em>Gentleman Jack<\/em>, <em>Happy Valley<\/em>) and produced by Lookout Point (<em>Gentleman Jack<\/em>, <em>A Suitable Boy<\/em>), the show follows Nell Jackson, who is forced into a life of highway robbery after she&#8217;s framed for murder, along with her two orphaned sisters Roxanne and George. The series is executive produced by Wainwright, Penhale and Will Johnston from BBC Studios-backed Lookout Point.<\/p>\n<p>The Star original commission <em>Culprits<\/em> is a dark and funny heist series from filmmaker J Blakeson (<em>I Care A Lot<\/em>, <em>The Disappearance of Alice Creed<\/em>). The show follows what happens after a heist, when the crew have gone their separate ways, but are being targeted by a killer one by one. It is executive produced by Stephen Garrett (<em>The Undoing<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The Night Manager<\/em>) and produced by Morenike Williams (<em>Killing Eve<\/em>). <em>Culprits<\/em> is a Character 7 production.<\/p>\n<p><em>Extraordinary<\/em> is a Star original comedy series from new talent Emma Moran. It follows Jen, a young, self-aware woman who lives in a world where everyone has a superpower\u2014except her. From Sid Gentle Films, the show is executive produced by Sally Woodward Gentle, Lee Morris (<em>Killing Eve<\/em>) and Charles Dawson.<\/p>\n<p>Liam Keelan, VP of original content, commented: \u201cThese three outstanding titles represent exactly where we want to be with our commissioning strategy for Disney and Star\u2014projects of scale, originality and with top talent attached.
