{"id":10428,"date":"2020-08-03T10:12:41","date_gmt":"2020-08-03T14:12:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev2.worldscreen.com\/tveurope\/chernobyl-end-fing-world-lead-bafta-tv-wins\/"},"modified":"2020-08-03T10:12:41","modified_gmt":"2020-08-03T14:12:41","slug":"chernobyl-end-of-the-fing-world-lead-bafta-tv-wins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tveurope\/2020\/08\/03\/chernobyl-end-of-the-fing-world-lead-bafta-tv-wins\/","title":{"rendered":"Chernobyl, End of the F***ing World Lead BAFTA TV Wins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has revealed the winners of the Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards, with <em>Chernobyl<\/em>, <em>End of the F***ing World<\/em> and <em>Stath Lets Flats<\/em> scoring two wins each.<\/p>\n<p>Following seven wins at this year\u2019s British Academy Television Craft Awards,\u00a0<em>Chernobyl\u00a0<\/em>won two more BAFTAs, for mini-series\u00a0and leading actor\u00a0for<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Jared Harris.<\/p>\n<p>The leading actress\u00a0award was won by\u00a0Glenda Jackson\u00a0for her performance in <em>Elizabeth is Missing<\/em>, her first television role for more than 25 years.<\/p>\n<p><em>End of the F***ing World\u00a0<\/em>received the BAFTA for drama series<em>\u00a0<\/em>and first-time nominee<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Naomi Ackie<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>won supporting actress<i>.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Will Sharpe, also a first-time winner, was recognized for his performance in <em>Giri\/Haji<\/em> in the supporting actor\u00a0category.\u00a0Mo Gilligan\u00a0won his first BAFTA for entertainment performance\u00a0for <em>The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>First-time nominee\u00a0Sian Clifford<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>won in female performance in a comedy program<em>\u00a0<\/em>for\u00a0<em>Fleabag<\/em>.\u00a0Following his success at the Television Craft Awards for writer: comedy,\u00a0Jamie Demetriou<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>won the BAFTA for male performance in a comedy program for<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><em>Stath Lets Flats<\/em>, which also won for scripted comedy<em>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Taskmaster<\/em>\u00a0won for comedy entertainment program, its first win following two previous nominations. The BAFTA for entertainment program was awarded to\u00a0<em>Strictly Come Dancing<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Race Across the World\u00a0<\/em>received the BAFTA for reality and constructed factual.\u00a0<em>The Misadventures of Romesh Ranganathan<\/em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>won in the features\u00a0category.\u00a0<em>Brain in Gear\u00a0<\/em>won the BAFTA for short-form program, with Gbemisola Ikumelo, Fergal Costello and Inez Gordon winning their first BAFTAs.<\/p>\n<p>Ava DuVernay\u00a0won the second BAFTA of her career with\u00a0<em>When They See Us<\/em>\u00a0in the international\u00a0category.<\/p>\n<p><em>Emmerdale<\/em>\u00a0was awarded the BAFTA for soap and continuing drama.\u00a0<em>The Left Behind<\/em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>won the BAFTA for single drama.<\/p>\n<p>News coverage\u00a0was awarded to Sky News\u2019\u00a0<em>Hong Kong Protests<\/em>, and the award for current affairs\u00a0was presented to\u00a0<em>Undercover: Inside China\u2019s Digital Gulag (Exposure)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Leaving Neverland<\/em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>received the BAFTA for factual series,\u00a0<em>The Last Survivors<\/em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>won single documentary\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Yorkshire Ripper Files: A Very British Crime Story\u00a0<\/em>won specialist factual.<\/p>\n<p>2019 Rugby World Cup Final: England v South Africa\u00a0won in the sport\u00a0category, while the award for live event\u00a0went to\u00a0<em>Blue Planet Live<\/em><strong>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Special Award was presented to\u00a0Idris Elba<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>in recognition of his career and commitment to championing diversity and new talent in the industry.
