The BBC Studios Production Comedy team has signed an exclusive deal with Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton, the BAFTA- and RTS Award-winning creators of Inside No 9.

Under the deal, Shearsmith and Pemberton will develop new comedy and comedy-drama projects for the U.K. and international market in an exclusive first-look deal over two years. An actor, writer and comedian, Shearsmith co-created, wrote and acted in The League of Gentlemen and has starred in such comedies as Car Share, Mid Morning Matters, Catterick and Spaced. Pemberton, also a co-creator and star of The League of Gentlemen, counts among his acting credits Killing Eve, Britannia, The Interrogation of Tony Martin, Whitechapel and Happy Valley. He also adapted Mapp and Lucia from the novels of E F Benson.

Josh Cole, head of comedy at BBC Studios Production, said: “Reece and Steve are two of the most extraordinarily talented and distinctive creators working today. Their gift for comic storytelling knows no bounds and we’re hugely excited to be developing new projects with them. We’re incredibly proud of the uniquely brilliant shows they have made with BBC Studios, and are delighted to build upon the long-standing relationship we have with them.”

Shearsmith and Pemberton added: “We are delighted to continue working under the umbrella of BBC Studios. As a large and colorful umbrella, it affords us the creative freedom to develop new and exciting ideas to shape the future of international television and keeps our skin from burning on hot days. And now that it’s raining more than ever, know that we still have each other.”
