{"id":8080,"date":"2017-08-02T10:23:50","date_gmt":"2017-08-02T14:23:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/romper-stomper-remake-coming-to-stan\/"},"modified":"2017-08-02T13:36:05","modified_gmt":"2017-08-02T17:36:05","slug":"romper-stomper-remake-coming-to-stan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/romper-stomper-remake-coming-to-stan\/","title":{"rendered":"Romper Stomper Series Coming to Stan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Australian streaming service Stan has greenlit a six-part drama that continues the story of the controversial feature film <em>Romper Stomper<\/em>, released 25 years ago.<\/p>\n<p><em>Romper Stomper<\/em> will pick up on the themes and story of Geoffrey Wright\u2019s 1992 film, following\u00a0a new generation of the activist Right, their Anti-Fascist counterparts, and the multicultural fabric of a country each of them threatens to tear apart. A high-stakes crime drama\/political thriller, the series is produced by John Edwards (<em>Love My Way<\/em>, <em>Tangle<\/em>, <em>Offspring<\/em>) and Dan Edwards for Roadshow Rough Diamond with production investment from Stan and Screen Australia in association with Film Victoria. Wright himself conceived of the drama, which he will direct.<\/p>\n<p>Jacqueline McKenzie (<em>The Water Diviner<\/em>, <em>The 4400<\/em>) and Dan Wyllie (<em>Love My Way<\/em>, <em>Puberty Blues<\/em>) will star in\u00a0<em>Romper Stomper<\/em>, reprising their roles from the original film.<\/p>\n<p>Edwards said: \u201c<em>Romper Stomper<\/em> is a fantastic chance to break the mold of Australian drama\u2014a contemporary thriller with competing tribes and different points of view battling for power. The series brings together some of our greatest character actors and wonderful new talents as well. Very exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stan\u2019s chief\u00a0content officer, Nick Forward, said: \u201cWith such an extraordinary creative team, <em>Romper Stomper<\/em> will be unmissable television, as provocative now as the film was in 1992, examining at a personal level the hatred, fear, vengeance and politics hidden in plain sight all around us. Stan is privileged to bring Geoffrey\u2019s prodigious talents to bear on a contemporary exploration of the themes his film tackled so brilliantly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Screen Australia\u2019s head of production, Sally Caplan, said: \u201cFew films cut to the core of the Australian national psyche like <em>Romper Stomper<\/em> did in 1992. With prolific producer John Edwards and original writer\/director Geoffrey Wright at the helm, this timely and provocative story will be handled with exceptional creative vision that will be complemented by this fantastic Australian cast.
