{"id":8024,"date":"2017-07-19T09:36:01","date_gmt":"2017-07-19T13:36:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/book-based-syfy-projects-lead-ucp-development-slate\/"},"modified":"2017-07-19T12:56:04","modified_gmt":"2017-07-19T16:56:04","slug":"book-based-syfy-projects-lead-ucp-development-slate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/book-based-syfy-projects-lead-ucp-development-slate\/","title":{"rendered":"Book-Based Syfy Projects Lead UCP Development Slate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Universal Cable Productions (UCP) has unveiled its new development slate, which includes adaptations of Maggie Stiefvater\u2019s best-selling book series <em>The Raven Cycle<\/em> and Hugh Howey\u2019s post-apocalyptic novel series <em>Sand<\/em> for Syfy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re passionate about genre at UCP and as our latest development slate shows, we continue to work with some of the industry\u2019s most vibrant and imaginative talent to bring fans genre fare they can get behind,\u201d said Jeff Wachtel, chief content officer at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment and president of Universal Cable Productions. \u201cWhat began with <em>Battlestar Galactica<\/em> has grown into a mainstay for UCP as the genre itself has exploded into the mainstream.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>The Raven Cycle<\/em> includes four urban fantasy novels about a 17-year-old who becomes involved with a group of four privileged private school boys on a quest to find a source of mythical and mysterious power hidden deep in rural Virginia. Michael London of Groundswell Productions will executive produce alongside showrunner\/writer Andrew Miller and Catherine Hardwicke.<\/p>\n<p><em>Sand<\/em>, an action drama set in a world devastated by ecological damage, is being co-produced with\u00a0Imperative Entertainment. The book&#8217;s author, Hugh Howey, will executive produce, with the TV adaptation being handled by Gary Whitta. Tim Kring is also among the project&#8217;s exec producers.<\/p>\n<p>UCP also announced that\u00a0<em>Welcome to Hitchcock<\/em>, retelling\u00a0Alfred Hitchcock tales, will be penned by\u00a0Evan Spiliotopoulos. UCP is working with\u00a0Vermilion Entertainment and 1492 Pictures\/Ocean Blue Entertainment on the project.\u00a0The company&#8217;s slate also features <em>Sirens of Titan<\/em>\u00a0with Dan Harmon and Evan Katz.
