LOS ANGELES\/MUNICH\/MIAMI: TANDEM Productions is developing a Miami-set, music-driven ensemble drama series in partnership with Callie Khouri and T Bone Burnett.<\/p>\n
The series,\u00a0Deep City<\/i>,\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/span>is created by writer\/producer Juan Carlos Coto (From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series<\/em>, Nikita<\/em>, 24<\/em>), who also serves as executive producer. Fellow EPs are Khouri (Nashville<\/em>, Thelma & Louise<\/em>), an Academy Award-winning producer, writer and director; Burnett (True Detective<\/em>, Crazy Heart<\/em>), an Academy Award-winning music producer; Tim Halkin, TANDEM\u2019s managing director; and Rola Bauer, STUDIOCANAL TV\u2019s managing director.<\/p>\n Deep City<\/em> will be distributed internationally by STUDIOCANAL. Universal Music Group (UMG) is attached as music partner on the show.<\/p>\n Bauer said, \u201cMiami inspired me greatly for Deep City<\/em>. This new generation has put down roots amid a continually exploding cross section of cultures\u2014American, European, Asian, Russian and of course Latin American. The city politically and socially embodies what is happening in the world around us. Our talented partners were also inspired: from the prolific T Bone, Callie\u2019s strong female voice and Juan Carlos\u2019 vision of Miami, together with STUDIOCANAL\u2019s full studio backing and UMG\u2019s support, we are sure to make Deep City<\/em> an addictive series that will have huge appeal on the global stage.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWhen people think of Miami, they\u2019re often thinking Miami Beach,\u201d said Coto. \u201cThat\u2019s all good, but we want to explore the other narratives this city has to offer. The way Midtown\u2019s exploded in the last decade\u2014music, art, food, everything\u2014it\u2019s a whole new way for Miami to tell its story all over again. This is a city that is constantly reinventing itself.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cPut simply, this is a show about the new American dream,\u201d said Coto. \u201cAnd it\u2019s a dream project for me. I\u2019ve been writing and producing TV for more than twenty years, and every chance I get, I look to create a show in Miami.\u201d<\/p>\n Khouri commented: \u201cThe most important issues today are around race and immigration, globalism vs. tribalism. If you had to locate the intersection of those four points on a map, you would be in Miami.
