BEVERLY HILLS: Starz and Curtis \u201c50 Cent\u201d Jackson are extending their overall production deal, developing a superhero-themed show, with the U.S. network also partnering with Televisa to adapt a Mexican telenovela.<\/p>\n
Titled Tomorrow, Today<\/em>, the Jackson-penned drama will follow a veteran from the south side of Chicago who, after being falsely imprisoned, becomes the personal experiment of a mad doctor trying to create an unstoppable killing machine. The series marks the second collaboration between Starz and Jackson, who serves as executive producer of Power<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cI am looking forward to continuing my relationship with my Starz family; we have had great success together on Power<\/em> and I am excited to get going on all of our upcoming projects together,\u201d Jackson said. \u201cI knew Starz would be the perfect home for Tomorrow, Today<\/em>. This project is very personal to me\u2026creating it, writing it, finding the best team for it and I will continue to be involved every step of the way.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re excited to develop this series with Curtis to showcase his producing skills with this unique story line,\u201d said Carmi Zlotnik, the managing director of Starz.<\/p>\n Additionally, Starz is developing the original series Teresa<\/em> with Lionsgate and Televisa USA, a division of the Mexican media company Grupo Televisa. Award-winning writer\/producer Carlos Portugal (East Los High<\/em>) will create the series and serve as showrunner.<\/p>\n The show, based on the Mexican telenovela of the same name, focuses on an undocumented young Latina clawing her way into the exclusive world of Los Angeles wealth. The series will chronicle her ruthless pursuit of money and power and her willingness to do anything to get them.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re excited to be working with Carlos, Lionsgate and Televisa USA on redeveloping this iconic telenovela for American audiences,\u201d said Zlotnik. \u201cTeresa<\/em> will showcase a modern take on what it means to be Latina in America.\u201d<\/p>\n Televisa USA\u2019s Chris Philip added: \u201cStarz has proven to be a great programming partner and we\u2019re thrilled to expand our relationship with this updated take on a hugely successful Televisa format.\u201d<\/p>\n Other Starz original series in development include Dirty Girls Social Club<\/em>, a dramedy based on the best-selling novel by Alisa Valdes that follows six professional women in New York who have known each other since college; and Pussy Valley<\/em>, a one-hour scripted drama from playwright Katori Hall that takes a look at the lives of pole dancers working in Mississippi.<\/p>\n Starz has also greenlit a sophomore season of Steven Soderbergh\u2019s anthology series The Girlfriend Experience<\/em>, which will be made up of 14 half-hour episodes and will focus on entirely new characters and plot lines. Soderbergh will return as executive producer, with Lodge Kerrigan and Amy Seimetz serving as showrunners, writers and directors.<\/p>\n \u201cThe first season of The Girlfriend Experience<\/em> allowed us to accommodate all viewing appetites with the traditional weekly episodic premiere schedule as well as a bingeing option for the entire 13 episodes,\u201d said Zlotnik. \u201cWe\u2019re excited to offer Starz subscribers a second season that will explore new GFEs, clients and relationships as we take viewers back into this world that questions the price of intimacy and its emotional consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n Also returning for a second run is the horror comedy Ash vs Evil Dead<\/em> and the Patrick Stewart vehicle Blunt Talk<\/em>. Both will debut ten half-hour episodes starting October 2.<\/p>\n Additionally, Ash vs Evil Dead <\/em>is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video in Germany on September 1. Its second season will launch on the streaming platform later this year.
