The first episode launched on ITV with 6.4 million viewers and a 29 percent share. The show is based on Gerald Durrell\u2019s trilogy of memoirs, telling the story of Louisa Durrell, who uproots her four unruly &#8220;children&#8221; from Bournemouth to start a new life in Corfu in the 1930s. <em>The Durrells <\/em>is written by Simon Nye (<em>Tommy Cooper: Not Like That, Like This<\/em>,<em> Just William<\/em>,<em> Men Behaving Badly<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Sally Woodward-Gentle, CEO at Sid Gentle Films, said: \u201cThe combination of Gerald Durrell\u2019s warm, witty stories and Simon Nye\u2019s brilliance at adapting them meant we always knew that we had created something special.
