Produced for BBC One by Neal Street Productions, <em>Call the Midwife<\/em> launched in 2012. This month, BBC One will air the fourth <em>Call the Midwife<\/em> Christmas special, with the rest of season five lined up for January. The series follows the lives of a group of midwives working in the poverty-stricken East End of London. Season six brings the story line into 1962.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tPippa Harris, executive producer for Neal Street Productions, said: &ldquo;I am delighted that the BBC has decided to commission series six of <em>Call the Midwife<\/em> even before we have gone on air with series five! It really demonstrates their commitment to and passion for the show. The ongoing success of <em>Call the Midwife<\/em> is down to the incredible writing skills of Heidi Thomas and the talent and dedication of our wonderful cast and crew. I hope the audience will enjoy watching series five, which I firmly believe is our strongest yet.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>\n\tCharlotte Moore, the controller of BBC One, commented: &quot;BBC One is very proud to be the home of <em>Call the Midwife<\/em>. Its unrelenting quality and ambition has made it the most-watched drama series of the year and I&#039;ve just committed to a sixth series in 2017.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>\n\tMoore commissioned the sixth season along with Polly Hill, controller of BBC drama commissioning.
