STUDIO CITY\/NEW YORK: A new chapter of the long-running sci-fi series Star Trek<\/em> has been slated to premiere in 2017 on CBS\u2019s digital VOD service.<\/p>\n

The program will be the first original series developed specifically for U.S. audiences for\u00a0CBS All Access. The service already offers every episode of all previous Star Trek<\/em> TV series. The new show will first debut in January 2017 with a special preview broadcast on the CBS Television Network, with additional chapters rolling out on CBS All Access.<\/p>\n

Alex Kurtzman, co-writer and producer of the films Star Trek<\/em> and Star Trek Into Darkness<\/em>, will executive produce the new show. CBS Television Studios will produce the title in association with Kurtzman\u2019s Secret Hideout. CBS Studios International is slated to distribute the series globally for TV and multiple platforms.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no better time to give Star Trek<\/em> fans a new series than on the heels of the original show\u2019s 50th anniversary celebration,\u201d said David Stapf, the president of CBS Television Studios. \u201cEveryone here has great respect for this storied franchise, and we\u2019re excited to launch its next television chapter in the creative mind and skilled hands of Alex Kurtzman, someone who knows this world and its audience intimately.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis new series will premiere to the national CBS audience, then boldly go where no first-run Star Trek<\/em> series has gone before\u2014directly to its millions of fans through CBS All Access,\u201d said Marc DeBevoise, the executive VP and general manager of CBS Digital Media. \u201cWe\u2019ve experienced terrific growth for CBS All Access, expanding the service across affiliates and devices in a very short time. We now have an incredible opportunity to accelerate this growth with the iconic Star Trek<\/em>, and its devoted and passionate fan base, as our first original series.\u201d<\/p>\n
