{"id":23819,"date":"2025-11-11T11:27:44","date_gmt":"2025-11-11T16:27:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/netflix-reviving-a-different-world\/"},"modified":"2025-11-11T11:48:18","modified_gmt":"2025-11-11T16:48:18","slug":"netflix-reviving-a-different-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/netflix-reviving-a-different-world\/","title":{"rendered":"Netflix Reviving A Different World"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Netflix is reviving the \u201990s sitcom <em>A Different World<\/em> with the order of a new sequel series centered on Deborah Wayne, with Felicia Pride (<em>Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em>,<em> Bel-Air<\/em>) as showrunner and executive producer.<\/p>\n<p>Debbie Allen, who served as producer for 122 episodes and directed 83 of the original run, is returning as executive producer and will direct three episodes. Tony winner Maleah Joi Moon (<em>Hell\u2019s Kitchen<\/em>) will star as Deborah, the well-intentioned but rebellious youngest child of Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is such an honor to be a part of bringing back this iconic show, one that I grew up on and which had a profound impact on my life,\u201d Pride said. \u201cI am so proud of the work we\u2019re doing to reimagine<em> A Different World<\/em> for beloved fans and new generations alike.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere couldn\u2019t be a better time than now to reboot <em>A Different World<\/em>,\u201d Allen commented. \u201cOur show changed lives, tripled the enrollment of historically black colleges and gave a strong voice and platform for Young Black America. The incredible fresh young talent we have discovered, paired with the lovable audience favorite OGs makes this much-anticipated return a must-see on Netflix.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The series will follow as Deborah enters her freshman year at her parents\u2019 HBCU alma mater, Hillman College. She sets out to build her own legacy beyond the shadow of her parents.<\/p>\n<p>Joining Moon in the cast are Alijah Kai (<em>Everybody Hates Chris<\/em>), Chibuikem Uche (<em>One Of Us Is Lying<\/em>), Cornell Young IV (<em>Doing Life<\/em>), Jordan Aaron Hall (<em>The Idea of Yo<\/em>u) and newcomer Kennedi Reece.<\/p>\n<p>Reggie Rock Bythewood (<em>Get on the Bus<\/em>, <em>Swagger<\/em>) and Gina Prince-Bythewood (<em>The Woman King<\/em>,<em> Love &amp; Basketball<\/em>), writers from the original series, are returning as executive producers alongside Mandy Summers (<em>That \u201990s Show<\/em>,<em> The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh<\/em>) and Tom Werner (<em>The Connors<\/em>, <em>Rosanne<\/em>, <em>A Different World<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>A Different World<\/em> changed everything for us,\u201d said the Blythewoods, who have been married since 1998. \u201cIt was where we got our start as writers and where we found each other. This show has always been a part of our love story.
