{"id":22760,"date":"2025-06-06T11:46:50","date_gmt":"2025-06-06T15:46:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/bbc-ni-rte-commission-tall-tales-murder\/"},"modified":"2025-06-06T11:59:48","modified_gmt":"2025-06-06T15:59:48","slug":"bbc-ni-rte-commission-tall-tales-murder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/bbc-ni-rte-commission-tall-tales-murder\/","title":{"rendered":"BBC NI &#038; RT\u00c9 Commission Tall Tales &#038; Murder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BBC Northern Ireland and RT\u00c9 have co-commissioned two six-part seasons of <em>Tall Tales &amp; Murder<\/em> from co-creators Stuart Carolan (<em>Love\/Hate<\/em>) and Chris Addison (<em>Veep<\/em>, <em>Breeders<\/em>,<em> The Thick of It<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Based on the eight-book <em>Dublin Trilogy<\/em> by Caimh McDonnell, the series adaptation will star Ella Lily Hyland (<em>Black Doves<\/em>,<em> Towards Zero<\/em>, <em>Silent Roar<\/em>), Aidan Gillen (<em>Love\/Hate<\/em>, <em>Game of Thrones<\/em>, <em>KIN<\/em>), Philippa Dunne (<em>Amandaland<\/em>, <em>Derry Girls<\/em>, <em>The Woman in the Wall<\/em>) and Packy Lee (<em>Peaky Blinders<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>The series is produced by Avalon, in association with Metropolitan Pictures, with support from Screen Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>The first season began filming this week and is expected to premiere in 2026. Avalon will be handling international distributor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been a fan of the brilliant Chris Addison since <em>The Thick of It<\/em>,\u201d Carolan said. \u201cIt\u2019s been incredible fun working with him to bring this insane story to life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Addison commented, \u201cI\u2019m frankly giddy with delight to get to team up with the twisted and highly original mind of Stuart Carolan to create this show. We\u2019ve taken Caimh\u2019s wonderful novel as a jumping-off point and ended up with what I like to think of as a dark and delicious screwball drama.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s so exciting to be in production with this amazing Irish drama from Stuart Carolan and Chris Addison after a great development process,\u201d added David Crean, head of drama at RT\u00c9. \u201cThe scripts are fantastic, as is the cast. RT\u00c9 is excited to be collaborating with such brilliant broadcast partners to bring this great series to audiences on a national and international stage. <em>Tall Tales &amp; Murder<\/em> is part of an unprecedented slate of original Irish drama in production from RT\u00c9, which will deliver over 142 hours of original drama this year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eddie Doyle, head of content commissioning for BBC Northern Ireland, said, \u201c<em>Tall Tales &amp; Murder<\/em> is storytelling at its darkest, funniest and most surreal. We\u2019re looking forward to bringing audiences with us on this wild and thrilling ride from Stuart Carolan and Chris Addison, masters of their craft.
