Each crime story is heavily rooted in the varied culture and history of the city.<\/p>\n<p>Ethan Kai (<em>Killing Eve<\/em>) and Yasemin Kay Allen (<em>The Usual Suspects<\/em>) star alongside Bilginer.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Turkish Detective<\/em> is produced by Ay Yapim. It is written by Ben Schiffer (<em>Skins<\/em>) and directed by Niels Arden Oplev (<em>The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo<\/em>). Schiffer and Arden Oplev also executive produce, alongside include Kerem \u00c7atay and Claire Sowerby-Sheppard.<\/p>\n<p>BBC has picked up the series to stream on BBC iPlayer and air on TV later this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom the moment I opened Barbara Nadel\u2019s novel, I fell in love with the unique, iconic character of Inspector Ikmen,\u201d Schiffer said. \u201cA beacon of hope and humor in a dark, difficult world, I\u2019m so delighted that he and our show, a blend of emotionally charged mystery and family drama, has found a home at the BBC.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sue Deeks, head of BBC program acquisition, commented, \u201cNot only does <em>The Turkish Detective<\/em> provide a compelling, multilayered crime thriller, but it is set in stunning Istanbul, a vibrant contemporary city that also reflects the cultural influences of a rich and varied historical past.
