{"id":20836,"date":"2024-05-22T10:10:42","date_gmt":"2024-05-22T14:10:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/the-marlow-murder-club-returning-for-second-season\/"},"modified":"2024-05-22T10:10:44","modified_gmt":"2024-05-22T14:10:44","slug":"the-marlow-murder-club-returning-for-second-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/the-marlow-murder-club-returning-for-second-season\/","title":{"rendered":"The Marlow Murder Club Returning for Second Season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A second season of <em>The Marlow Murder Club<\/em> has been commissioned for UKTV\u2019s free-to-air channel U&amp;DRAMA and streamer U, the rebranded names of Drama and UKTV Play, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The new six-part season will see Robert Thorogood join forces with writers Lucia Haynes (<em>Annika<\/em>, <em>Vera<\/em>) and Julia Gilbert (<em>Midsomer Murders<\/em>, <em>Ridley<\/em>), who will write a murder mystery each that spans two-episode installments. Episodes one and two will be based on Thorogood\u2019s second book, <em>Death Comes to Marlow<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The second season begins as life in Marlow returns to normal after the triple murder that affected the community the previous season. It\u2019s not long, however, before retired archaeologist Judith Potts, the Vicar\u2019s wife Becks Starling and dog walker Suzie Harris are called back into action when a series of new unsettling crimes occur.<\/p>\n<p>Returning to the cast are Samantha Bond, Cara Horgan, Jo Martin and Natalie Dew, among others.<\/p>\n<p>The series is again a co-commission with co-producer and U.S. broadcaster MASTERPIECE. It is produced by Monumental Television, in association with ITV Studios.<\/p>\n<p>Helen Perry said: \u201cMonumental Television and Robert Thorogood\u2019s female-led mystery thriller <em>The Marlow Murder Club<\/em> proved to be such a smash hit with viewers that we just had to bring it back for a second season,\u201d said Helen Perry, head of drama for UKTV. \u201cWe\u2019re delighted to be re-joining Judith Potts and the gang for more fun and puzzle-solving drama, and we know our viewers will love it too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>The Marlow Murder Club<\/em> was our first original commission to air on Drama and has proven to be a huge hit for the channel,\u201d noted Emma Ayech, channel director for U&amp;DRAMA. \u201cThe intricate storylines and compelling characters have resonated with our audience, and it\u2019s great news that we can share more of that in series two, which promises more murders, suspense and clever sleuthing!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Debra Hayward, co-founder of Monumental Television, commented, \u201cWe loved collaborating with Robert on <em>The Marlow Murder Club<\/em>, and we couldn\u2019t have asked for a better cast to bring to life his unlikely amateur detectives.
