The Glasgow-based indie Freedom Scripted is set to adapt Engleby<\/em>, the 2007 cult novel penned by Sebastian Faulks.<\/p>\n

Set between London and Cambridge, the six-part drama is a British murder mystery and psychological character study. Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place<\/em>) is attached to play Engleby, while Michael Keillor (Best Interests<\/em>, Lockerbie<\/em>) is set to direct.<\/p>\n

Ryan Craig (Filthy Business<\/em>, Our Class<\/em>, The Musketeers<\/em>) and Jess Ruston (Geek Girl<\/em>, Harlots<\/em>, Young Wallander<\/em>) have been tapped to write.<\/p>\n

Keillor said, \u201cIt\u2019s an honor to bring the fascinating and mercurial character of Engleby to life with Ryan, Jess and the whole team at Freedom Scripted.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jupe added, \u201cI\u2019m excited to be working with Freedom on bringing to screen one of Faulks\u2019 most beguiling and chilling characters.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEngleby is one of the most uniquely memorable voices in contemporary fiction \u2013 the blend of sharp intelligence, deep dysfunction, wry humor in this ultimate outsider make him an irresistible character,\u201d said Ruston.<\/p>\n

Craig commented, “Like the best thrillers, Engleby makes you feel complicit in the action and breathless at every twist in the plot\u2026 I can think of few stories that lend themselves so perfectly to TV drama.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTrue crime can be compelling, but also at times exploitative and misleading,\u201d said Mike Ellen, Freedom Scripted\u2019s managing director. \u201cIn Engleby<\/em>, which sprung from the brilliant mind of Sebastian Faulks, we tackle the reliability or otherwise of narration, and ultimately \u2018make it up to tell the truth\u2019 about a tragic set of very real feeling, fictional events.
