Filming has begun on a second season of S4C\u2019s Stad<\/em>, a sequel to Tipyn o Stad<\/em>, which concluded in 2008 after seven seasons.<\/p>\n

Stad<\/em> revolves around the adventures of the Gurkha family and their neighbors in the Maes Menai housing estate. Filming is taking place in locations around Caernarfon and Bangor until June, and the new season is expected to air in 2025.<\/p>\n

The series is produced by Cwmni Da and Triongl, with Angharad Elen and Dafydd Palfrey as the main screenwriters. The cast includes Lowri Palfrey, Si\u00f4n Eifion, Gwenno F\u00f4n, Begw Rowlands, Gwenno Hodgkins, Wyn Bowen Harris and Elen Gwynne.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very exciting that the new series of Stad has started filming,\u201d said Gwenllian Gravelle, drama commissioner at S4C. \u201cThe first series that followed the beloved characters of Tipyn o Stad\u2014as well as some new faces\u2014was very popular, and we can\u2019t wait for viewers to see what\u2019s next for the residents of Maes Menai.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is great to build on the success of the first series of Stad,\u201d commented producer Eryl Phillips. \u201cCaernarfon is unique and a special place, its people have character, backbone and energy. The series taps into these special attributes in its portrayal of the Ghurka family who face many challenges and hardships but always find a way to carry on, and you better have a smile on your face!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so pleased to be back filming,\u201d added Hodgkins, who plays Carys Gurkha and was part of the cast of the original series. \u201cThis series will be much easier than the last series, due to the Covid restrictions that were in place at the time. Playing the role of Carys is like stepping back into a pair of comfy shoes. Her character came easy to me. I like her as a character, but on the other hand, she is incredibly stubborn and makes bad decisions. These estates are full of good people who are rooted in their communities and who work hard.
