Filming has begun on the TV adaptation of Ingmar Bergman\u2019s Faithless<\/em>, which is being directed by Tomas Alfredson (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy<\/em>, Let the Right One In<\/em>).<\/p>\n

The six-episode adaptation is told across two time periods. In the present day, 73-year-old renowned director David Howard is reunited with his former great love, 75-year-old actress Marianne Vogler. Forty years prior, young versions of the two fall in love and have a passionate love affair that they must keep secret, as Marianne is married to David\u2019s best friend, Markus.<\/p>\n

The adaptation is written by Norwegian writer Sara Johnsen. The cast includes Gustav Lindh (Queen of Hearts<\/em>) as young David, Jesper Christensen (James Bond<\/em>, Exit<\/em>, Nymphomaniac<\/em>) as old David, Frida Gustavsson (Vikings<\/em>, The Witcher<\/em>) as young Marianne, Lena Endre (Millenium<\/em>, Acquitted<\/em>, Kingsman<\/em>) as old Marianne and August Wittgenstein (The Crown<\/em>, Das Boot<\/em>, Ku\u2019damm<\/em>) as Markus.<\/p>\n

The Faithless<\/em> adaptation is being produced by Fremantle\u2019s Miso Film Sweden in co-production with SVT and ARTE, with the support of DR, NRK, Yle, RUV and Nordisk Film & TV Fond. Fremantle is handling global sales. The series is expected to premiere in early 2025.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have been living with Faithless<\/em> for more than 20 years, and I\u2019m thrilled that we now have commenced shooting,\u201d Alfredson said. \u201cThe casting of Faithless<\/em> is crucial for the complex story, and I have worked very hard to attract the right cast for the series. We have managed to attract the best talent we have, and I can\u2019t wait to develop and form the characters with our skilled cast.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPast and present Swedish film history are coming together with Tomas\u2019s take on Ingmar Bergman\u2019s story,\u201d commented Anna Croneman, head of drama at SVT. \u201cWe are very excited about the series, the collaboration with Tomas and Sara, and the amazing cast. We look very much forward to introducing Faithless<\/em> to a new audience.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alexandre Piel, deputy head of drama at ARTE, added, \u201cWhen Tomas Alfredson and Miso Film pitched the series to us almost a year ago, we instantly knew that this was a series we wanted to be a part of. Faithless<\/em> is the core of public service, and we look very much forward to co-produce the series with our trusted partners SVT and Miso Film.\u201d<\/p>\n
