The U.K.\u2019s BBC and Germany\u2019s ZDF have commissioned The Famous Five<\/em>, an adaptation of Enid Blyton\u2019s The Famous Five<\/em> series, from Moonage Pictures (The Pursuit of Love<\/em>) and Nicolas Winding Refn.<\/p>\n

The three-part series, made up of 90-minute episodes, follows five young explorers as they go on treacherous, action-packed adventures featuring mysteries, danger and secrets. The show will draw on the 21 stories that make up Blyton\u2019s book series.<\/p>\n

The Famous Five<\/em> will be directed by Tim Kirkby and produced by Moonage Pictures and byNWR Originals. BBC Studios, which has a minority stake in Moonage, will oversee international distribution. It has already brokered co-production and presales deals with France\u2019s TF1 and Germany\u2019s ZDF. Episode one is written by Matthew Read, episode two is written by Priya K Dosanjh and episode three is being written by Matthew Bouch and Matthew Read.<\/p>\n

Winding Refn, creator and executive producer, said: \u201cAll my life I\u2019ve fought vigorously to remain a child with a lust for adventure. By reimagining The Famous Five<\/em>, I am preserving that notion by bringing these iconic stories to life for a progressive new audience, instilling the undefinable allure and enchantment of childhood for current and future generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

Will Gould, co-founder of Moonage Pictures, commented: \u201cMoonage Pictures was created to provide the right creative environment to explore ideas without limitation, and this provides us with exactly that opportunity. In the hands of Nicolas and Matthew, this Famous Five<\/em> will be a modern, timely and irreverent action series with adventure at its heart.\u201d<\/p>\n

Patricia Hidalgo, director of BBC Children\u2019s and Education, added: \u201cBringing these books to life with a new reimagining of The Famous Five<\/em> is a real treat for BBC audiences and a celebration of British heritage. These stories are loved around the world and bringing families together is a key part of our strategy so we hope it introduces a new generation of viewers to these wonderful adventures.\u201d<\/p>\n
