{"id":18788,"date":"2023-06-12T10:24:53","date_gmt":"2023-06-12T14:24:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev2.worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/uktv-orders-new-toby-whithouse-drama-alibi\/"},"modified":"2023-06-12T10:24:53","modified_gmt":"2023-06-12T14:24:53","slug":"uktv-orders-new-toby-whithouse-drama-for-alibi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/uktv-orders-new-toby-whithouse-drama-for-alibi\/","title":{"rendered":"UKTV Orders New Toby Whithouse Drama for Alibi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UKTV has commissioned <em>The Red King<\/em>, created and written by Toby Whithouse (<em>Being Human<\/em>, <em>The Game<\/em>), for its crime drama channel Alibi.<\/p>\n<p>The six-part series, produced by Quay Street Productions in association with ITV Studios, sees an inner-city police sergeant forced into a punishment posting on the small island of St. Jory, where she is confronted with the unsolved case of a missing teenage boy.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Red King<\/em> combines the story of a police investigation with chilling folk horror through the island\u2019s past devotion to ap pagan god called the Red King and the cult of the True Way.<\/p>\n<p>The star-studded cast includes Anjli Mohindra (<em>The Lazarus Project<\/em>, <em>Vigil<\/em>), Adjoa Andoh (<em>Bridgerton<\/em>, <em>Queen Charlotte<\/em>), Marc Warren (<em>Van Der Valk<\/em>), Jill Halfpenny (<em>The Long Shadow<\/em>, <em>Everything I Know About Love<\/em>), Mark Lewis Jones (<em>Keeping Faith<\/em>), Oliver Ryan (<em>Steeltown Murders<\/em>, <em>Pennyworth<\/em>), Sam Swainsbury (<em>Mum<\/em>, <em>Fisherman\u2019s Friend<\/em>), Lu Corfield (<em>Showtrial<\/em>), James Bamford (<em>Luther: The Fallen Sun<\/em>) and Maeve Courtier-Lilley (<em>The Outpost<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p><em>The Red King<\/em> will air on Alibi in 2024. It is supported by North East Screen and will be internationally distributed by ITV Studios.<\/p>\n<p>Executive producers of the series are Nicola Shindler (<em>Nolly<\/em>, <em>It\u2019s A Sin<\/em>, <em>Stay Close<\/em>) and Davina Earl (<em>Men Up<\/em>, <em>Safe<\/em>, <em>Come Home<\/em>) for Quay Street Productions (part of ITV Studios), Philippa Collie Cousins for UKTV and Whithouse. The series will be directed by Daniel O\u2019Hara (<em>Stay Close<\/em>, <em>The Stranger<\/em>, <em>Brassic<\/em>), also an executive producer, and produced by Guy Hescott (<em>Without Sin<\/em>, <em>Whitstable Pearl<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorking with Quay Street and UKTV has been a genuine joy,\u201d Whithouse said. \u201cThis has been a passion project for all of us.
