Expectation has secured the exclusive rights to develop Pope Lonergan\u2019s book I\u2019ll Die After Bingo<\/em>, recounting his decade of caring for the elderly, for television.<\/p>\n

Lonergan\u2019s novel details his time working in a British care home, where something interesting happened every day, whether he was initiating a coup d\u2019\u00e9tat against new regulations with the residents or forming a bond with a 98-year-old who once called him a \u201cfat slut.\u201d It challenges readers to think differently about the value of the elderly and the carers who look after them.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m buzzin\u2019 to be working with Expectation,\u201d Lonergan said. \u201cIn the creative industries (ergh), cultivating relationships is really important\u2014and luckily Expectation is full of the nicest, most insightful and talented \u2018TV people\u2019 you\u2019ll ever find. I\u2019m very grateful they\u2019ve taken a punt on me (a recovering Crack \u2018ead Quaker) and my book (a book that includes a line about swallowing boobs). But seriously, I\u2019m excited. The adaptation\u2019s going to be both light and dark; uncompromising, poetic and, yes, very funny.\u201d<\/p>\n
