Emmy Award winner Frank Doelger (Game of Thrones<\/em>, The Swarm<\/em>, John Adams<\/em>, Rome<\/em>) and Intaglio Films, a joint venture of Beta Film and ZDF Studios, have begun production on the surveillance drama thriller Concordia<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Shot in English, the 6×45-minute series is set in an experimental utopian community. ZDF, MBC, France T\u00e9l\u00e9visions and Hulu Japan are signed on as partners.<\/p>\n

Concordia<\/em> is directed by Barbara Eder (The Swarm<\/em>, Barbarians<\/em>, Cop Stories<\/em>). Doelger helms as executive producer and showrunner alongside executive producers Ute Leonhardt, Rafferty Thwaites, Jan W\u00fcnschmann and Robert Franke. Shooting takes place in various locations in Rome, Northern Italy and Leipzig\/Germany.<\/p>\n

The project comes from Mike Walden (The Frankenstein Chronicles<\/em>, U Want Me 2 Kill Him<\/em>) and Nicholas Racz (The Burial Society<\/em>, The Real Thing<\/em>).<\/p>\n

International Emmy winner Christiane Paul (Counterpart<\/em>, In July<\/em>) stars as Juliane, the visionary behind the new utopia powered by an AI to ensure a freer, fairer and more humane society. Steven Sowah (For Jojo<\/em>, Before We Grow Old<\/em>), Ruth Bradley (Ted Lasso<\/em>, Humans<\/em>), Nanna Blondell (Black Widow<\/em>, House of the Dragon<\/em>), Jonas Nay (Line of Separation<\/em>, Deutschland 83<\/em>), Ahd Kamel (Collateral<\/em>, Honour<\/em>), Hugo Becker (Baron Noir<\/em>, Leonardo<\/em>) and Jos\u00e9phine Jobert (Death in Paradise<\/em>, Summer Crush<\/em>) are also featured among the cast.<\/p>\n

Concordia<\/em> is written by Racz, Isla van Tricht and Walden. Producers are Tobias Gerginov, Jacob Glass and Sergio Ercolessi.<\/p>\n

The project is supported by Mitteldeutsche Medienf\u00f6rderung, S\u00e4chsische Staatskanzlei and Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg. ZDF Studios and Beta Film are jointly distributing.<\/p>\n

Doelger said: \u201cThroughout history, blueprints for the reimagining of society along religious, political, economic and environmental lines have been put forward\u2014particularly in periods marked by a sense of tumult, cultural and financial dislocation, and a rise in violence, like our own. The visionaries behind Concordia<\/em> think they finally have the technology to realize such a brave new world, only to discover that there is no way to keep evil out as it comes from the inside.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eder added: \u201cI\u2019m very excited to be part of a project that has such thought-provoking and increasingly pertinent subject matter. The exploration of surveillance, privacy and data is the backdrop for this chilling thriller. Concordia<\/em> merges both technology and its abuses and also how it shapes the hierarchy of society.
