{"id":16808,"date":"2022-05-09T10:19:41","date_gmt":"2022-05-09T14:19:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev2.worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/sex-educations-ncuti-gatwa-tapped-doctor\/"},"modified":"2022-05-09T13:00:29","modified_gmt":"2022-05-09T17:00:29","slug":"sex-educations-ncuti-gatwa-tapped-for-doctor-who","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/sex-educations-ncuti-gatwa-tapped-for-doctor-who\/","title":{"rendered":"Sex Education&#8217;s Ncuti Gatwa Tapped for Doctor Who"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The BBC has revealed Ncuti Gatwa as the new Doctor set to take charge of the TARDIS in <em>Doctor Who<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Gatwa is best known for his performance in <em>Sex Education<\/em> as Eric Effiong, for which he was awarded the Best Actor Award at the Scottish BAFTAs in 2020 as well as numerous nominations, including Best Male Performance in a comedy program at this year\u2019s BAFTAs.<\/p>\n<p>Gatwa said: \u201cThere aren\u2019t quite the words to describe how I\u2019m feeling. A mix of deeply honored, beyond excited and of course a little bit scared. This role and show mean so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care. I will endeavor my utmost to do the same.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRussell T Davies is almost as iconic as the Doctor himself and being able to work with him is a dream come true. His writing is dynamic, exciting, incredibly intelligent and fizzing with danger. An actor\u2019s metaphorical playground. The entire team has been so welcoming and truly give their hearts to the show. And so, as much as it\u2019s daunting, I\u2019m aware I\u2019m joining a really supportive family. Unlike the Doctor, I may only have one heart but I am giving it all to this show.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Russell T Davies, showrunner, added: \u201cThe future is here and it\u2019s Ncuti! Sometimes talent walks through the door and it\u2019s so bright and bold and brilliant, I just stand back in awe and thank my lucky stars. Ncuti dazzled us, seized hold of the Doctor and owned those TARDIS keys in seconds. It\u2019s an honor to work with him and a hoot. I can\u2019t wait to get started. I\u2019m sure you\u2019re dying to know more, but we\u2019re rationing ourselves for now, with the wonderful Jodie\u2019s epic finale yet to come.
