{"id":16438,"date":"2022-03-08T08:09:58","date_gmt":"2022-03-08T13:09:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev2.worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/new-walking-dead-spin-off-series\/"},"modified":"2022-03-08T08:39:42","modified_gmt":"2022-03-08T13:39:42","slug":"new-walking-dead-spin-off-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/new-walking-dead-spin-off-series\/","title":{"rendered":"New Walking Dead Spin-Off Series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AMC Networks has greenlit a new series set in the world of <em>The Walking Dead<\/em>, this one starring Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.<\/p>\n<p><i>Isle of the Dead<\/i> envisions the Maggie and Negan characters traveling into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long ago cut off from the mainland.<\/p>\n<p>It is set to premiere on AMC+ and AMC in 2023. The first season will consist of six episodes.<\/p>\n<p>Eli Jorn\u00e9, who has been a writer and co-executive producer on <i>The Walking Dead<\/i> for multiple seasons and has an overall deal with AMC Studios, will serve as showrunner and executive producer on the series, which is overseen by Scott M. Gimple, chief content officer of <i>The<\/i> <i>Walking Dead<\/i> Universe. Cohan and Morgan will also serve as executive producers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a very big day for the expanding universe we are building around <em>The Walking Dead<\/em>,\u201d said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks. \u201cIt not only adds another compelling series to this collection, it extends our storytelling around two unforgettable characters fans have grown to love, hate or hate and then love in Maggie and Negan, brilliantly inhabited by Lauren and Jeffrey. It also lets us explore a corner of this universe located on the island of Manhattan, with an iconic skyline that takes on a very different meaning when viewed through the lens of a zombie apocalypse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEli has created a chaotic, beautiful, grimy madhouse of the dead for Negan,\u00a0Maggie and fans of the show eager to discover an unseen and insane world of the <em>TWD<\/em> Universe,\u201d said Gimple. \u201cLauren and Jeffrey have always been fantastic collaborators and now, we bring that collaboration to the next level with a series that will take these characters to their limits with the world\u2014and each other.\u00a0 All of us are thrilled to take you on an all-new, all-different <em>TWD<\/em> epic for the ages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Said Cohan, \u201cI\u2019m thrilled to partner with Dan McDermott and the team at AMC on the next chapter in <em>The Walking Dead<\/em> Universe.\u00a0 Maggie is very close to my heart, and I\u2019m excited to continue her journey against the iconic backdrop of New York City, alongside my friend and collaborator, Jeffrey Dean Morgan.\u00a0 Eli Jorn\u00e9 has created something incredibly special and I cannot wait for the fans to see what we have in store for Maggie and Negan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Said Morgan, \u201cI\u2019m delighted that Negan and Maggie\u2019s journey continues.\u00a0 It\u2019s been such a ride walking in Negan\u2019s shoes, I\u2019m beyond excited\u00a0to continue his journey in New York City with Lauren.\u00a0\u00a0Walkers in an urban setting has always been such a cool image, but 5th\u00a0Avenue, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty?\u00a0 The greatest city in the world? \u00a0The backdrop is amazing, but it\u2019s\u00a0the story that Eli\u00a0Jorn\u00e9\u00a0cooked up that is even better.
