{"id":16302,"date":"2022-02-09T10:10:02","date_gmt":"2022-02-09T15:10:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev2.worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/cineflix-rights-bring-australian-crime-drama-worldwide\/"},"modified":"2022-02-09T10:10:02","modified_gmt":"2022-02-09T15:10:02","slug":"cineflix-rights-to-bring-australian-crime-drama-worldwide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/cineflix-rights-to-bring-australian-crime-drama-worldwide\/","title":{"rendered":"Cineflix Rights to Bring Australian Crime Drama Worldwide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cineflix Rights has partnered with Mark Fennessy&#8217;s Helium Pictures to bring the new Australian true-crime drama <em>Last King of the Cross<\/em> to audiences around the world.<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by John Ibrahim\u2019s best-selling autobiography of the same name, the series tracks Ibrahim&#8217;s rise from a poverty-stricken immigrant with no education and no money to Australia&#8217;s most infamous nightclub mogul in Sydney&#8217;s Kings Cross.<\/p>\n<p>The series adaptation, greenlit by Paramount+ in Australia, is written by Kieran Darcy-Smith (<em>Wolf Creek<\/em>, <em>The Duel<\/em>), who also directs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled to be partnering with Mark and Helium on <em>Last King of the Cross<\/em>\u2014a truly authentic depiction of gangster life, set against the backdrop of one of the most iconic locations on the planet,\u201d said James Durie, head of scripted at Cineflix Rights. \u201cBased around classic themes of family bonds being tested, criminal empire-building and corruption, which echo some of the most successful movies and TV shows of recent years, we believe it has huge potential with international audiences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fennessy added, \u201cJohn Ibrahim\u2019s story is an incredible tale of the violence and brutality behind the infamous Kings Cross of the 1990s. But the soul and foundation of <em>Last King of the Cross<\/em> lies within its rich characters and their relationships and, in particular, two immigrant brothers with a fractured sense of identity, culture and family who are forced to the limits as they find out that blood is thicker than water, but you can drown in both.
