Known locally as <em>Son Nefesime Kadar<\/em>, the Turkish version will star Nurg\u00fcl Ye\u015fil\u00e7ay (<em>Paramparca<\/em>) as Catherine Cawood, a no-nonsense police sergeant in a small town whose world is turned upside down when the man she thinks is responsible for her daughter\u2019s death is released from prison.<\/p>\n<p>Emre Bey (<em>Elimi Birakma<\/em>), Emre Kinay (<em>Gunesin Kizlar\u0131<\/em>) and Ertan Saban (<em>Elveda Rumeli<\/em>) are also on board the cast. It is being adapted by Hatice Meryem, whose previous work includes local adaptations of <em>Shameless<\/em> and <em>Desperate Housewives<\/em>. The series is produced by Ya\u015far \u0130rv\u00fcl and Efe \u0130rv\u00fcl and directed by Deniz \u00c7elebi Dikilita\u015f.<\/p>\n<p>The adaptation is slated to air on free-to-air channel FOX Turkey in the coming months.<\/p>\n<p>Andr\u00e9 Renaud, senior VP of global format sales at BBC Studios, said, \u201cWe have seen a brilliant response from Turkish audiences to the formidable female characters that lead our scripted formats already in market\u2014<em>Doctor Foster<\/em>, <em>The Split<\/em> and <em>Mistresses<\/em>. The depth and dimension that the character of Catherine Cawood has run very deep, and I\u2019m confident that Nurg\u00fcl Ye\u015fil\u00e7ay will be able to bring justice to the role.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Efe Irvul at Pastel Film said, \u201cWhen we first watched <em>Happy Valley<\/em>, we were deeply touched by its story and strong characters. We have realized how universal the concept is and how deeply it could resonate with Turkish audiences. We immediately took action to bring this splendid story home. We have a talented cast and a hard-working crew.
