The BBC has commissioned The Gold<\/em>, a new drama inspired by the true story of the Brink\u2019s-Mat robbery in November 1983.<\/p>\n

The Gold<\/em> is a co-production between Tannadice Pictures, an Objective Fiction partner, and ViacomCBS International Studios for BBC One and BBC iPlayer. The 6×1-hour series is based on extensive research and interviews with those involved in the events.<\/p>\n

Neil Forsyth (Guilt<\/em>;\u00a0Eric, Ernie and Me<\/em>) is behind the series as writer.<\/p>\n

On November 26, 1983, six armed men broke into the Brink\u2019s-Mat security depot near London\u2019s Heathrow Airport and inadvertently stumbled across gold bullion worth \u00a326 million. The disposal of the bullion caused the birth of large-scale international money laundering, provided the dirty money that helped fuel the London Docklands property boom, united blue- and white-collar criminals and left controversy and murder in its wake.<\/p>\n

Forsyth, said, \u201cWe\u2019re delighted to be working with the BBC on our first Tannadice Pictures production. The story of the Brink\u2019s-Mat gold is a thrilling, surprising and tragic story, and I am excited to be able to tell it.”<\/p>\n
