Two new American Story<\/em> spin-off limited series are in the works for FX: American Sports Story<\/em> and American Love Story<\/em>, along with an additional season of\u00a0American Horror Stories<\/em>, plus a fourth run of\u00a0What We Do in the Shadows\u00a0<\/i>and the new mystery drama\u00a0Retreat<\/i>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

American Sports Story<\/i><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>is a scripted anthological limited series that focuses on a prominent event involving a sports figure and re-examines it through the prism of today\u2019s world, telling that story from multiple perspectives.<\/span>\u00a0The first installment is based on the podcast Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc<\/em><\/span>\u00a0and will\u00a0chart the rise and fall of NFL superstar Aaron Hernandez.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

American Love Story<\/i><\/span>\u202f<\/b><\/span>is a scripted anthology series of sweeping true love stories that captured the world\u2019s attention. \u202fThe first installment depicts the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>courtship<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and marriage<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>of John F. Kennedy Jr.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and Carolyn Bessette.<\/span><\/p>\n

Studio 54:<\/i><\/span>\u00a0<\/i><\/span>American Crime Story<\/i><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>is currently in development as the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>potential\u00a0fourth installment of the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>award-winning hit limited series franchise<\/span>.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

FX and 20th Television closed a blockbuster deal for the additional series from producers Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson.\u00a0Murphy\u2019s American Story<\/i><\/span>\u00a0<\/i><\/span>banner launched in 2011 with<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>American Horror Story<\/i>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/i><\/span>followed by its first spin-off,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>American Crime Story<\/i>, in\u00a0<\/i><\/span>2016, the latter on which he partners with Jacobson and Simpson.\u00a0<\/span>FX and Hulu recently launched the episodic anthology spin-off American Horror Stories<\/em>,\u00a0which will return with a second installment.<\/span><\/p>\n

In total, the American Story<\/i>\u00a0franchise shows have earned 141 Emmy nominations and won 33 Emmy Awards.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Simpson<\/em>, The Assassination of Gianni Versace<\/em> and Impeachment<\/em>. We can\u2019t wait to see what comes next.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dana Walden, chairman of<\/span>\u00a0e<\/span>ntertainment at Walt Disney Television,<\/span> said, \u201cMore than\u00a0a decade ago, Ryan Murphy\u00a0expressed interest in expanding the American Horror Story<\/em> model to be able to tell different \u2018American\u2019 stories, which have long captivated so many of us. It was a brilliant idea. Adding these new installments to the franchise will enable Ryan,\u00a0Brad, Nina and Brad and their talented teams to tackle\u00a0riveting stories outside of the horror and crime genres. This group has done a truly amazing\u00a0job of examining situations we\u00a0think we know everything about\u00a0and\u00a0making us realize\u00a0that there was so much more there than\u00a0what we had been told.\u00a0 Many\u00a0of us at 20th Television, FX and FXP have worked\u00a0together\u00a0on this franchise since the very beginning, and it has been a privilege. It\u2019s been an incredible partnership and collaboration, and we\u2019re looking forward to\u00a0these new chapters.\u201d<\/p>\n

A fourth season has been ordered for\u00a0What We Do in the Shadows<\/i>, based on the feature film by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. The show documents the nightly exploits of vampire roommates Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) as they navigate the modern world of Staten Island with the help of their human familiar, Guillermo (Harvey\u00a0Guill\u00e9n).<\/p>\n

\u201cFans can\u2019t seem to get enough of\u00a0What We Do in the Shadows<\/em>,\u00a0and FX is ready to feed that appetite by setting up the series for a fourth season,\u201d said Nick Grad, president of original programming at FX Entertainment. \u201cOur thanks to the extraordinary job by the creative team, cast and crew who keep making a great show better each season.\u201d<\/p>\n

Additionally, FX ordered Retreat<\/em>, a limited series from Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij that follows an amateur sleuth as she attempts to solve a murder at a secluded retreat. Marling (The OA<\/em>, Another Earth<\/em>) and Batmanglij (The OA<\/em>, Sound of My Voice<\/em>) will write the series and both will direct. Marling will also play a key role in the series.\u00a0Retreat<\/em> is executive produced by Marling, Batmanglij and Andrea Sperling (Transparent<\/em>). The series will be produced by FX Productions.<\/p>\n
