Tolkien\u2019s <em>The Hobbit<\/em> and <em>The Lord of the Rings<\/em> books in a time of relative peace. It is the first time Tolkien\u2019s Second Age of Middle-earth\u2019s history will appear on screen. The series will follow an ensemble of characters as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe journey begins September 2, 2022, with the premiere of our original <em>The Lord of the Rings<\/em> series on Prime Video,\u201d said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios. \u201cI can\u2019t express enough just how excited we all are to take our global audience on a new and epic journey through Middle-earth! Our talented producers, cast, creative and production teams have worked tirelessly in New Zealand to bring this untold and awe-inspiring vision to life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The cast includes Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz C\u00f3rdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, Daniel Weyman and Sara Zwangobani.<\/p>\n<p>Showrunners and Executive Producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are joined by Executive Producers Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, J.A. Bayona, Bel\u00e9n Atienza, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, Gennifer Hutchison, Bruce Richmond and Sharon Tal Yguado, with Wayne Che as a co-executive producer, Charlotte Br\u00e4ndstr\u00f6m as director and Christopher Newman as producer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs Bilbo says, \u2018Now I think I am quite ready to go on another journey,\u2019\u201d said Payne and McKay. \u201cLiving and breathing Middle-earth these many months has been the adventure of a lifetime.
