Steven Knight is on board to write a six-part adaptation of Charles Dickens\u2019\u00a0Great Expectations<\/em>, once again teaming with producers Ridley Scott and Tom Hardy, with the limited series set for FX and the BBC.<\/p>\n

Great Expectations<\/em>\u00a0will be produced by FX Productions in association with the BBC, Scott Free and Hardy Son &\u00a0Baker. This marks the second Dickens adaptation penned by Knight, following the hit limited series\u00a0A Christmas Carol<\/em>, which delivered a total audience of more than 10 million viewers across linear and nonlinear channels last December.<\/p>\n

Knight will write and executive produce\u00a0Great Expectations<\/em>, which will also be executive produced by Hardy, Scott, Dean Baker,\u00a0David\u00a0W.\u00a0Zucker, Kate Crowe and Mona Qureshi for the BBC (the team behind\u00a0A Christmas Carol<\/em>) and Marina Brackenbury serves as co-executive producer.<\/p>\n

Great Expectations\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0A Christmas Carol\u00a0<\/em>are the first two in a series of adaptations of Dickens\u2019 novels commissioned by FX and the BBC. FX and the BBC also\u00a0produced the acclaimed drama series\u00a0Taboo<\/em>, starring Tom Hardy, written by Steven Knight and produced by Knight, Hardy, Chips Hardy, Ridley Scott, Dean Baker and Kate Crowe.<\/em><\/p>\n

Knight said, \u201cAdapting Dickens\u2019 work is a delight.\u00a0I chose Great Expectations<\/em> as the next work to bring to the screen not just because of the timeless characters, but also because of the very timely story.\u00a0A story of class mobility and class intransigence told through an intensely emotional and personal first-person narrative.\u00a0As the son of a Blacksmith myself, Pip\u2019s journey from the forge into society is a very special one to me.\u201d<\/p>\n
