The Cry<\/em> producer Synchronicity Films has optioned the rights to thriller writer Craig Russell\u2019s Lennox<\/em> book series, set in Glasgow in the 1950s.<\/p>\n

The 4×1-hour adaptation is being developed as a returning period crime series. Robert Murphy (DCI Banks<\/em>, Inspector George Gently<\/em>, Vera<\/em>, Shetland<\/em>) is working on the book-to-screen treatment.<\/p>\n

The central character of the book series is Lennox, a ruggedly good-looking private detective, born in Glasgow but raised in North America following the Depression. A damaged man in a hard city at a hard time, Lennox is caught in the middle of the three crime bosses\u2014The Three Kings\u2014who control the city.<\/p>\n

Claire Mundell, managing director and creative director of Synchronicity, said: \u201cCraig Russell\u2019s Lennox is a fascinating character, taking inspiration from the classic noir detective and infusing him with freshness and bite through intricately researched setting, the authenticity of the period and compelling plot.
