Tom&#8217;s acceptance of the job is the first step into a complex life of deceit, fraud and murder. The lead role will be played by\u00a0Scott, who shot to fame as the &#8220;hot priest&#8221; in season two of\u00a0<em>Fleabag.\u00a0<\/em>Prior to this,\u00a0he won the BAFTA Award for best\u00a0supporting actor for his portrayal of Moriarty in <i>Sherlock <\/i>and the British Film Independent Award for his work in CBS Films\u2019 <i>Pride. <\/i><\/p>\n<p>Oscar and Golden Globe\u00a0winner and Emmy\u00a0nominee Steven Zaillian (<i>Schindler\u2019s List<\/i>,<i> The Night Of) <\/i>will write and direct the first season.\u00a0Zaillian won Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA screenplay awards for <i>Schindler&#8217;s List<\/i> and was also nominated for all three honors for his work on <i>Moneyball. <\/i>He has received two other Oscar nominations, for <i>Gangs of New York <\/i>and <i>Awakenings<\/i>, as well as BAFTA noms for <i>Gangs of New York <\/i>and <i>American Gangster. <\/i><\/p>\n<p><em>Ripley<\/em> is co-produced by Showtime and Endemol Shine North America in association with Entertainment 360 and Filmrights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are so thrilled to have the supremely talented filmmaker, Steve Zaillian, adapt the singular saga of Tom Ripley from Patricia Highsmith\u2019s novels as an ongoing series for Showtime,\u201d said Gary Levine, co-president of entertainment at Showtime Networks. \u201cWith Andrew Scott, whose charisma knows no bounds, inhabiting the iconic lead role, we feel confident that this will be a special one.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Showtime has ordered the first eight-episode season of the ongoing drama series Ripley, based on Patricia Highsmith\u2019s best-selling quintet of Tom Ripley novels, with Andrew Scott (Fleabag, Sherlock) starring in the title role.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":350,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"pmpro_default_level":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[70],"tags":[3348,166],"class_list":["post-11944","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","","category-top-stories","tag-andrew-scott","tag-showtime","pmpro-has-access"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v21.7 -
