In its more than 15 years of original productions in the region, the strategy has remained the same: \u201cto deliver the best content, to be innovative and to create new content that has the HBO seal of quality to follow that brand and the evolution of the industry,\u201d says Xavier Aristimu\u00f1o, VP of licensing for HBO Latin America. \u201cWe continue to concentrate on innovation in our content, taking risks, exploring new formats and, more than anything, finding new voices in order to generate relevant content that can attract viewers from all over the Latin American region but also audiences from all around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aristimu\u00f1o points to \u201coriginality, relevance and unique talent\u201d as important elements behind HBO content. \u201cWith originality, we have new stories and fresh takes for series, miniseries, documentaries and films. The relevance is in the fact that these are universal stories. The narratives connect with a global <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/newsletters.worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/img\/2019-07-29-Pico-De-Neblina.jpg\" alt=\"***Image***\" width=\"275\" height=\"203\" \/>audience. We always explore social issues and historical narratives.\u201d He adds, \u201cWe are always working with talent that comes from different areas\u2014from the movie industry, the television industry\u2014who have an extraordinary background or who are up-and-coming new talent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>HBO Latin America continues betting on the growth of its original production, while hits such as <em>Sr. \u00c1vila<\/em>, <em>Magn\u00edfica 70<\/em>, <em>Psi<\/em> and <em>The Business <\/em>completed their final seasons last year. To fill the void that the end of these established classics leaves, there are new productions to be launched, such as <em>Joint Venture<\/em> (<em>Pico da Neblina<\/em>), or returning successes like the second seasons of <em>The Bronze Garden<\/em>, which Aristimu\u00f1o says \u201chas a Hitchcock film noir\u201d feel to it, and <em>The Secret Life of Couples<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are always working on new productions that continue to maintain our unique storytelling,\u201d Aristimu\u00f1o says. For example, <em>Mil Colmillos<\/em> is the first fiction series for HBO Latin America produced in Colombia. \u201cIt\u2019s action and horror. It\u2019s filmed in the Amazon with a high level of production.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Pico da Neblina<\/em> is going to be a big event,\u201d says Aristimu\u00f1o. The story centers on social changes through a fictional situation about the legalization of marijuana in Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>With a historical perspective, HBO Latin America is prepping <em>Santos-Dumont<\/em>, a miniseries based on the story of the father of aviation. \u201cThis is a good example of what we do at HBO,\u201d says Aristimu\u00f1o. \u201cIt is a miniseries that is being produced 60 to 70 percent in French and the rest in Portuguese and English,\u201d as Alberto Santos-Dumont was an aristocrat from Brazil who moved to Paris and lived there most of his life.<\/p>\n<p>Another series that brings a historical narrative is <em>The American Guest<\/em>, based on the true story of Theodore Roosevelt\u2019s expedition to Brazil to explore the rivers in the Amazon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom historical to social issues to horror, we will have many more productions coming in the next two years,\u201d Aristimu\u00f1o says. While the stories are diversified, the aim, he says, is to \u201cmaintain the essence of Latin America through storytelling that interests everybody\u2014with local relevance and global resonance. For 16 years, we\u2019ve been delivering a mix of high-quality, exclusive original content that has not only captivated audiences in Latin America but also all around the world.
