Bryncoed Productions has optioned the screen-adaptation rights to C. L. R. James\u2019 The Black Jacobins: Toussaint L’Ouverture and the San Domingo Revolution<\/em>, which was written in 1938.<\/p>\n

The book charts the history of the Haitian Revolution of 1791 to 1804. Kwame Kwei-Armah OBE, an award-winning British playwright, director, actor and broadcaster, has signed on to adapt the project for TV as a ten-part series.<\/p>\n

The series will start with the first slave revolt of 1791 and end with the Haitian declaration of independence in 1804. It will explore the nature of leadership, its compromises, its glories and the personal cost it claims.<\/p>\n
