{"id":10318,"date":"2018-11-07T09:53:41","date_gmt":"2018-11-07T14:53:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/syndrome-drama-bbc-northern-ireland\/"},"modified":"2018-11-07T11:26:38","modified_gmt":"2018-11-07T16:26:38","slug":"down-syndrome-drama-from-bbc-northern-ireland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/down-syndrome-drama-from-bbc-northern-ireland\/","title":{"rendered":"Down Syndrome Drama from BBC Northern Ireland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Ups and Downs<\/em>, one of two stand-alone dramas being made as part of BBC Northern Ireland\u2019s pilot New Perspectives initiative, is currently filming.<\/p>\n<p>Written and directed by Eoin Cleland (<em>Incoming Call<\/em>), the drama stars Susan Lynch (<em>Ready Player One<\/em>, <em>Waking Ned<\/em>, <em>Killing Eve<\/em>) as the mother to a 22-year-old son with Down syndrome, played by James Martin, and 18-year-old daughter, played by Rosie Barry (<em>Pablo<\/em>). In the series, two siblings head off on a road trip to Belfast to attend a gig without their mother\u2019s permission.<\/p>\n<p>New Perspectives is aimed at finding and developing new drama writing, production and acting talent. <em>Ups and Downs<\/em> is being produced for BBC Northern Ireland by Big Fish Films, with support from Northern Ireland Screen, and will be aired next year.<\/p>\n<p>Martin said: \u201cMaking this film is good fun, good craic and there\u2019s some good music too. Nothing holds me back when it comes to drama and acting, and my character in the film just wants to get his voice heard and that\u2019s important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barry added: \u201cI am having the time of my life filming with James and the rest of the cast and crew. You have those moments where you have to pinch yourself and ask yourself\u2014is this really happening?
