AMC has planned a series of original films set in the universe of The Walking Dead<\/em>\u00a0starring Andrew Lincoln and written by Scott Gimple to continue the story of Rick Grimes.<\/p>\n

Lincoln’s character of Grimes is last seen in the Walking Dead<\/em> series being flown away by helicopter to an unknown destination after being mortally wounded. The first film will explore the story of where Rick is taken and what he faces in a new corner of the zombie apocalypse.<\/p>\n

As part of the multiyear plan for the Walking Dead<\/em> universe, there are other projects currently in the works, including additional films, specials, series, digital content and more. Some of the stories will be tied to The Walking Dead<\/em> while others will be standalone stories. These mark the first projects in development under\u00a0Gimple as chief content officer.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a lot on the horizon\u2014starting with a new epic featuring one of the greatest leading actors in television history and one of the best people I\u2019ve ever met,\u201d said Gimple. \u201cThese films are going to be big evolutions of what we\u2019ve been doing on the show, with the scope and scale of features. We\u2019re starting with the first part of the continuing story of Rick Grimes, and there is much more on the way, featuring yet-unseen worlds of The Walking Dead<\/em> and faces from the show\u2019s past, as well as new characters we hope to become favorites, told by TWD<\/em> veterans and emerging voices. We want to break new ground with different, distinct stories, all part of the same world that\u2019s captured our imagination for nearly a decade of the Dead<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n
