{"id":10256,"date":"2018-10-25T09:40:30","date_gmt":"2018-10-25T13:40:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/richard-gere-talks-motherfatherson\/"},"modified":"2018-10-25T11:32:08","modified_gmt":"2018-10-25T15:32:08","slug":"richard-gere-talks-motherfatherson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/richard-gere-talks-motherfatherson\/","title":{"rendered":"Richard Gere Talks MotherFatherSon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At MIPCOM, Richard Gere, known for his blockbuster roles in films such as <em>American Gigolo<\/em>, <em>An Officer and a Gentleman<\/em> and <em>Pretty Woman<\/em>, spoke to <em>TV Drama<\/em>\u00a0about his starring role in BBC Studios\u2019 upcoming drama <em>MotherFatherSon<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Gere started working in film in the \u201970s in supporting roles until the opportunity arose for the lead in <em>American Gigolo<\/em> in 1980. His career then took off thanks to movies like <em>An Officer and a Gentleman<\/em>, <em>Pretty Woman<\/em>, <em>Primal Fear<\/em> and <em>Chicago<\/em>, for which he won a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award.<\/p>\n<p>As has happened with other well-known actors in the entertainment industry, Gere was wooed by television\u2019s charms and decided to star in BBC Studios\u2019 <em>MotherFatherSon<\/em>. In the series, Gere plays Max, owner of one of the world\u2019s most influential media conglomerates, where his son Caden, editor of the company\u2019s flagship publication, crumbles under the weight of his father\u2019s expectations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reality is, I\u2019ve never done anything on TV that was something I was convinced of,\u201d Gere said when asked about why he decided to return to television. \u201cOne thing [I worked on] many years ago on television was to help get financing for a show on HIV and AIDS. [<em>MotherFatherSon<\/em>] is the first thing that I\u2019ve done that I\u2019ve committed to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He went on to explain that he considers this series more like an eight-hour movie that tells a very deep, dense story. \u201cI don\u2019t see this as television at all. It\u2019s a novel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe world is so turned upside down in terms of movies right now that this is where the most interesting stuff is being done for an actor\u2014it\u2019s television. And there\u2019s no stigma about it at all,\u201d Gere added. \u201cCertainly for me, I don\u2019t have to work, I do what I want to.
