{"id":10043,"date":"2018-09-28T08:40:10","date_gmt":"2018-09-28T12:40:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/night-manager-producer-adapt-never\/"},"modified":"2018-09-28T09:06:16","modified_gmt":"2018-09-28T13:06:16","slug":"night-manager-producer-to-adapt-we-were-never-here","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvdrama\/night-manager-producer-to-adapt-we-were-never-here\/","title":{"rendered":"Night Manager Producer to Adapt We Were Never Here"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ink Factory (<em>The Night Manager<\/em>) is partnering with Marc Platt (<em>La La Land<\/em>, <em>Bridge of Spies<\/em>) and Adam Siegel (<em>Drive<\/em>, <em>2 Guns<\/em>) to adapt <em>We Were Never Here<\/em>, a debut novel by Lara Prescott.<\/p>\n<p>Based on events surrounding the publication of Boris Pasternak\u2019s<em> Doctor Zhivago<\/em> and the role the CIA played in using it as a weapon of propaganda for the West, the novel\u00a0<em>We Were Never Here<\/em> has already been sold in 25 countries. The story is set in the 1950s at the height of the Cold War and is told through the voices of the women at the center of the action.<\/p>\n<p><i>We Were Never Here<\/i>\u00a0centers on a plan by the CIA plan to engineer the publication of<span lang=\"EN\">\u00a0Pasternak\u2019s controversial novel <em>Doctor Zhivago<\/em>\u00a0in his home country. Despite the fact that Pasternak was Russia\u2019s greatest living author, the authorities there ordered the manuscript destroyed and the book banned due to themes they considered critical of the regime.\u00a0<\/span>The CIA smuggled the manuscript out of Russia, had it translated, and then smuggled the book back into the country, where it was used as anti-socialist propaganda.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen Cornwell at The Ink Factory said: \u201cIn its ambition, scope and execution, <em>We Were Never Here<\/em>\u00a0is a remarkable novel by any standards, and as a first novel, breathtaking. The greatest spy stories are also great love stories.
