Japan’s The Confidence Man JP Lands Korean Remake

A South Korean remake of Fuji Television Network’s The Confidence Man JP is headed to TV Chosun and Coupang Play.

The Korean remake of the Japanese drama, which premiered in 2018 and has since expanded with sequels, feature films and spin-offs, is also set for a global rollout, landing on Prime Video on September 6.

The adaptation stars Park Min Young, Park Hee-soon and Joo Jong-hyuk. It is produced by TME Group and co-produced by the fifthwall studio and ghost4.

Ryota Kosawa, screenwriter of The Confidence Man JP, said, “Having a South Korean remake has been a dream of mine ever since we began creating the original Japanese version. I’m deeply grateful that, over time, this project came to fruition thanks to the efforts of a highly skilled director, writer, and team, and an extraordinary cast beyond my expectations. I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds in this new version.”

Kentaro Shibuya, head of the content business department at Fuji Television Network, added: “We are committed not only to the domestic and international sale of content, but also to expanding distribution channels in the global market and developing new avenues through collaboration with external partners. Our goal is to create a proactive and multi-dimensional business design. The fact that the original drama The Confidence Man JP has been recognized overseas, adapted into a remake, and distributed worldwide marks a long-cherished milestone in our business development. We hope this will serve as a springboard for our future content strategy, and we invite you to look forward to what’s to come.”
