LONDON: Sid Gentle Films has acquired the rights for Elizabeth Jane Howard’s best-selling book series The Cazalet Chronicles.

The series of five novels, set between the 1930s and 1950s, follows the lives of three generations of the Cazalet family. Sid Gentle Films snapped up rights to all five books, including The Light Years and All Change, to produce a five-season series.

Woodward Gentle, who negotiated the deal, said, “Elizabeth Jane Howard is an extraordinary writer, a highly skilled storyteller of understatement and deceptive simplicity. The novels are totally addictive with the ability to floor you with their turn of events. They are set in the middle of the 20th century but the themes of love, loss, repression, sex and family ties are shot through with 21st-century resonance. I am thrilled that Sid Gentle Films has the opportunity to bring this wonderfully epic family saga to a new generation of drama lovers.”
