{"id":6330,"date":"2022-01-25T09:26:37","date_gmt":"2022-01-25T14:26:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev2.worldscreen.com\/tvasia\/viu-ramps-original-productions-asia\/"},"modified":"2022-01-25T12:50:28","modified_gmt":"2022-01-25T17:50:28","slug":"viu-ramps-up-original-productions-for-asia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvasia\/viu-ramps-up-original-productions-for-asia\/","title":{"rendered":"Viu Ramps Up Original Productions for Asia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The pan-regional OTT video streaming service Viu has expanded its roster of originals across Asia, with some 30 shows slated for production.<\/p>\n<p>Marianne Lee, chief of content acquisition and development at Viu, said, \u201cIn 2022, we continue to build a strong pipeline of Viu Originals with strong local content in Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia as well as pan-regional titles in Korean and Chinese that have established Viu\u2019s reputation and presence in the market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Felix To, chief of Viu Original, said, \u201cWith an original series release almost every month, we want to continue to delight users when they come to our platform. They will get a unique mix of Asian content, including more original Chinese content. It will further cement Viu\u2019s leading position in the OTT entertainment market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More than 30 new productions will be released in 2022, which includes returning seasons of <em>Close Friend<\/em> in Thailand and <em>Assalamualaikum My Future Husband<\/em> in Indonesia and new local originals, including the Thai musical <em>WANNABE<\/em> and Korean series\u00a0<em>Again My Life<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>WANNABE<\/em> is a coming-of-age drama series and musical starring Chanon (Nonkul) Santinatornkul, the multi-award-winning actor who will be making his vocal debut as a young rapper in the series. Also in the way of Thai dramas comes the romantic drama <em>Finding the Rainbow<\/em>, romantic comedy <em>My Coach<\/em>, thriller <em>Remember 15<\/em> and action series <em>Real Fake<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Further Viu Originals include the sci-fi comedy <em>AI5YA<\/em>, created by Malaysia\u2019s Afdlin Shauk and starring Zizan Razak, and the Malaysian fantasy romantic comedy <em>Seribu Nina<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In the first half of 2022 alone, Viu will launch Korean Originals such as <em>Again My Life<\/em>, starring Lee Joon-gi, Lee Geung-young and Kim Ji-eun, based on a web novel of the same title published on KakaoPage; and <em>From Now On, Showtime<\/em>, starring Park Hae-jin and Jin Ki-joo.
