CANNES: Malaysian production companies Primeworks Studios, Animasia Studio, Scubazoo and Global Station have secured several deals worth more than $4 million at MIPCOM.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia (KKMM) and FINAS led the Malaysian delegation of 40-plus creative companies at MIPCOM. KKMM\u2019s Deputy Secretary-General of policy, Dato’ Mohid Mohamed, and FINAS\u2019s chairman, Dato\u2019 Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib, were among those in attendance.<\/p>\n
Primeworks Studios is teaming with Nippon Television Network Corporation (Nippon TV) and Sumitomo Corporation to co-produce a comedy series titled Jenaka Kampung Kalut: Season 2<\/em>, slated to air on TV3 in November. Primeworks Studios also inked a deal with Canada\u2019s Portfolio Entertainment, which acquired Welcome to the Railworld Japan<\/em> and Best in the World Japan<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are proud to be one of the companies that has caught Portfolio Entertainment\u2019s attention in MIPCOM,\u201d said Marini Ramlan, the general manager of content innovation and distribution at Primeworks Studios. \u201cThrough this partnership, Primeworks Studios hopes to bring Asian content to screens across the globe.\u201d<\/p>\n Animasia Studio, meanwhile, signed another deal with South Africa\u2019s Strika Entertainment to produce two new seasons of Supa Strikas<\/em>, an animated sports-action TV series.<\/p>\n “We are extremely proud of the Supa Strikas<\/em> series as we have seen the brand growing rapidly over the years,\u201d said Edmund Chan, the managing director of Animasia Studio. \u201cOur team is just finishing on season five, and we are thrilled with the continuation of the new seasons.\u201d<\/p>\n Scubazoo secured a deal with Australia’s Wildbear Entertainment to co-produce Borneo’s Secret Kingdom<\/em>, a blue-chip natural-history series, which has been produced for National Geographic WILD Global and ZDF ARTE.<\/p>\n Additionally, Global Station launched the trailer for La Loba<\/em>, an adaptation from the TV Azteca telenovela of the same name. Currently broadcasting on Astro, La Loba<\/em> is the second format adaptation between the three companies.
