NBCUniversal Slates Special Lineup to Commemorate 9/11 Anniversary

NEW YORK: In recognition of the ten-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks, NBC News and NBCUniversal networks and platforms have lined up special coverage and programming, with content also extended online.

On September 11, NBC News will air a special broadcast that covers the U.S.’s observance of the attacks. NBC’s America Remembers special broadcast will include the official memorial ceremonies at Ground Zero, the Pentagon and Shanksville, PA.

On September 5, NBC will present Children of 9/11, a special about the young people who were directly affected by the event. September 5 also kicks off the incorporation of 9/11 coverage and programming on the Today show. On September 9, Matt Lauer will be live from Ground Zero. Today will also take a look back at some of the children of 9/11 victims.

Dateline has slated a two-hour special for September 9, featuring NBC News special correspondent Tom Brokaw, who spent more than 100 hours at the anchor desk in the first week after the attacks. Brian Williams will anchor special editions of NBC Nightly News on September 9 and 11 from Ground Zero. Lester Holt will anchor the broadcast on September 10. NBC News is also employing Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to ask viewers "Where Were You?" to feature first-hand stories about people’s experiences ten years ago.

MSNBC has lined up Day of Destruction: Decade of War for September 1. The documentary looks at the field experience of NBC News’ chief foreign correspondent Richard Engel and MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow for a broad look at the decade past. The program will re-air on September 9, 10 and 11. On Native Soil, about the 9/11 Commission hearings, is to air September 10 on MSNBC, re-airing September 11. Also set to air on September 11 on MSNBC is 9/11: In Our Own Words, a documentary that features NBC News anchors recalling their personal memories of reporting the events.

CNBC has lined up special segments throughout its Business Day programming focusing on the financial impact of 9/11. American Greed: 9/11 Fraud will look at the illegal lengths people will go to to steal money in times of national tragedy. The Suze Orman Show will discuss money lessons of 9/11. CNBC.com will publish a special report focused on how Wall Street has changed since the attacks.

USA Network has lined up the world television premiere of The Space Between, starring Melissa Leo, for September 11. The documentary short Twin Towers will immediately follow. USA is also creating a special mini-site at charactersunite.com to provide viewers with information and resources on the key issues addressed in the film.

Access Hollywood, from September 5 through 9, will feature special celebrity interviews with stars reflecting upon their experiences and memories.

Telemundo on September 11 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. will feature Jose Diaz Balart live from Ground Zero, with special coverage of the official memorial services.

Online, msnbc.com will stream NBC’s America Remembers program from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on September 11. iVillage will focus on serving as a forum for women to share, reflect and remember the tragic events.
