LONDON: Joyce Yeung has been appointed to the newly created role of executive VP of global content sales at BBC Worldwide, while David Weiland takes up the role of executive VP for Asia.

Based in London, Yeung will be responsible for seeing that BBC Worldwide's TV sales teams drive the maximum benefit from the company's increased investment in content. Yeung will represent sales in the content planning and acquisitions process. As Yeung moves to London, Weiland takes up the post of executive VP for Asia, following his tenure as executive VP for Western Europe.

Joerg Bachmaier, the executive VP of international production, will take over as interim executive VP of Western Europe before moving back to the U.S. for BBC Worldwide. A recruitment process to replace Weiland will begin now.

Paul Dempsey, the president of global markets at BBC Worldwide, said, "The new role of executive VP of global content sales will help further consolidate our position as the leading TV sales operator outside the U.S. studios. To have enjoyed continuing success against a backdrop of company-wide transformation is immensely gratifying and this new position will help drive us on to the next level. I am delighted that Joyce will be bringing her unparalleled knowledge of our sales business to this role. I am equally pleased that David will be taking advantage of the opportunity to work overseas. We are fortunate to have leaders of the calibre of Joyce and David who can fill pivotal roles within the company."

Yeung said, "I am very excited to be moving to the UK to take on this important role. Content sales are fundamental to BBC Worldwide and I look forward to representing and supporting this part of the business at a global level and contributing to its growth."

Weiland added, "I am really delighted to be taking up the role of executive VP for Asia. The region is a high priority for the company and I am looking forward to working with the team to grow the business over the next few years in what is arguably the world’s most dynamic and exciting media market. I can’t wait to get started."

Separately, Ian McDonough has announced he will be leaving the company to take up a new role outside BBC Worldwide. Grant Welland, the finance director of global markets at BBC Worldwide, will take on Ian’s role on an interim basis. The recruitment process for executive VP of CEMA will run in parallel with Western Europe.

Dempsey commented, "Ian’s pioneering approach to CEMA has been integral to building a strong business across the region and we are very proud of what he has achieved. We wish him well in his new role which will be announced in due course."
