BBC Entertainment to Launch in Asia

LONDON, September 18: BBC
Worldwide has announced that BBC Entertainment, a new drama and comedy channel,
will premiere in Asia this October.

BBC Entertainment, part of
BBC Worldwide’s new strategy for its global channels, will offer series such as
Footballers Wives, Murder Prevention, Cutting It, Waking the Dead and Rebus, and comedies including Broken News, Extras and My Life In Film.

The channel will be
broadcast from October 8 and replaces BBC Prime on StarHub in Singapore, UBC
Thailand, Skylife in Korea and Now Broadband TV in Hong Kong.

“Asia is a
vital territory for us and I am delighted that BBC Entertainment will debut in
this vibrant region,” says Darren Childs, BBC
Worldwide’s managing director of global channels. “It
is the first of a suite of BBC branded channels to be rolled out, and signifies
the new level of commitment BBC Worldwide has made to the channels business and
its global audiences.”

“BBC Entertainment is the
first of BBC Worldwide’s new thematic channels that we are bringing to Asia,”
adds Christine Leo-McKerrow, SVP of global channels for Asia. “Featuring drama
and comedy with first-class production values, top quality writing, and
outstanding performances, BBC Entertainment will be the channel of choice for
quality television.”
