NATPE Spotlight: MarVista Entertainment

MIAMI: The Disney Channel family feature The Swap is among the titles that MarVista Entertainment believes will pique buyers’ interests at NATPE.

Based on the popular young-adult novel by Megan Shull, the movie stars Disney Channel regulars Peyton List and Jacob Bertrand. “Family features are a genre that continue to receive high demand in practically every major territory around the world,” says Fernando Szew, the CEO of MarVista Entertainment. “The production value and Disney pedigree will most definitely excite our partners.”

Szew says that the combination of murder and romance is what makes Forsaken “an emotional rollercoaster ride that will captivate audiences.”

Another top highlight for the market is ExPatriot, an action thriller starring Valene Kane (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and Charlie Weber (How to Get Away with Murder).

“We are debuting 14 new movies across all genres at NATPE and are confident that they will fill multiple time periods for our partners’ schedules,” Szew says.

MIAMI: MarVista Entertainment and its new MarVista Digital Entertainment division are both present at NATPE this week, showcasing several tween movies and action/disaster films, among other fare.

“We’ve had a strong and consistently favorable response from buyers and viewers alike to our films, whether it’s our tween movies like Pants on Fire and Zapped for Disney in the U.S., or an action/disaster movie like 10.0 Earthquake,” says Vanessa Shapiro, the executive VP of distribution at MarVista Entertainment.

Pants on Fire features a charming young man who tells lies to get out of chores, homework and to excuse his bad behavior. Zapped is a tween comedy featuring the breakout star Zendaya (Shake It Up!). The movie has a “positive message at its core,” according to Shapiro. The disaster story 10.0 Earthquake touches on ecological issues surrounding fracking.
