SANTA MONICA/VANCOUVER: Agapy Kapouranis has been promoted to the newly created position of executive VP of global subscription video on demand at Lionsgate.

In her new role, Kapouranis will spearhead the licensing of content to SVOD platforms across the international marketplace. She will be tasked with evaluating the merits of global SVOD or market-by-market sales strategies on a case-by-case basis. In addition, Kapouranis will continue to oversee the licensing of Lionsgate’s content in Canada.

Kapouranis will be based in Santa Monica, reporting to Lawrence Szabo, Lionsgate’s executive VP of North American TV and SVOD sales, and Peter Iacono, the president of international television and digital distribution. Kapouranis previously served as senior VP of television and digital distribution. In that role, she was influential in identifying windowing opportunities and new business models, while also managing the North American subscription streaming market. She joined Lionsgate in May 2011 after serving as VP of international on-demand and new media at MGM Studios.

Jim Packer, the president of worldwide television and digital distribution at Lionsgate, said, “Agapy is an innovative television and digital-distribution executive and a skilled decision-maker with a deep understanding of local international markets and global SVOD deals. She is part of an international distribution team of experienced, digitally fluent and forward-thinking executives who position us to evolve with our markets and capitalize on tremendous opportunities in the SVOD and digital space around the world.”
