Lynn Barrie, a former ABC Entertainment Group exec, has been named senior VP of original programming and development at Freeform.

In her new position, Barrie will be responsible for the development of scripted drama and comedy series. She is expected to help find and expand on ideas for scripted content. She will work under Karey Burke, the network’s executive VP of programming and development.

Barrie previously served as VP of comedy development at ABC Entertainment Group. Before that, she was the company’s senior VP of current programming. She started her career at 20th Century Fox Television as manager of creative affairs and was later elevated to director of creative affairs.

Burke remarked: “I’ve known and respected Lynn for longer than I’m willing to admit, and I can think of no one better to lead us into the next phase of our growth here at Freeform. She is universally admired as a great creative partner to writers and as a champion for bold ideas. Her integrity, honesty and instincts have won her a wide following and we are delighted to have her here as one of our own.”
