NEW YORK: Doug Herzog, the president of Viacom’s Music and Entertainment Group, is stepping down effective January 12.

He reportedly will not be replaced in this post, and instead the heads of the networks covered under his group—which includes MTV, Comedy Central, VH1, Spike and Logo—will report directly to Bob Bakish, CEO of Viacom. Herzog originally served as president of MTV Productions in the 1980s and of Comedy Central in the ’90s. He went out to work as president of entertainment at Fox Broadcasting Company from 1998 to 2000 and as president of USA Network from 2001 to 2004. He rejoined Viacom as president of the entertainment division shortly thereafter.
